Name brands I’m here for: Hooker Valley track 

Transport: Only one way in & out= route 80, one of the most scenic drives ever 


FYI 

  • Secluded area within the mountains- not very accessible in winter 
  • Fill up gas before heading here- self serve station didn’t have unleaded 91 

ACCOMADATION and FOOD

  • 1 Hermitage– bougie hotel $$$$ 
    • DO NOT go to here for dinner 
    • Can park in the back lot even if not staying there 
    • Laundry room in the hotel accessible via rear entrance- takes credit cards  
    • Sir Edmund Hillary Cafe & Bar– breakfast & lunch with scenic outdoor spot
  • 2 “Mt cook Lodge” – much more affordable- next door to hermitage 
    • Chamois bar & grill: BEST spot for dinner, great food with amazing views 
    • Can use hermitage for laundry 
  • 3 White horse hill campground

World famous and the reason everyone comes to Mt Cook 

  1. Visitors center- right next to Hermitage 
  2. Mt cook scenic helicopter flight   
  3. Tasman Glacier Viewpoint: AllTrails
    • 10min drive from Mt cook village 
    • Trailhead from parking lot- very short, easy hike 
    • Parallel to Hooker Valley track on the other side of the Mt cook range.  

Other

  1. Lake Pukaki Viewpoint:  
    • Only 1hr from Mt cook but is on the way- Definitely worth the pitstop 
    • Scenic lake views and Lupin flowers when in season.
