FYI
- One of the most popular and beautiful sites in Iceland- on the east side
- Egilsstaðir : Closest town 1hr away- make sure gas filled up!
- Go early- very popular attraction
- Gravel road the last 15 min on your drive
- Lot of rain and snow in this area- trail can be very muddy
- Two ways to view
- 1. East bank- Instagram shot where you can walk down to the river
- 2. West bank- lame platform where you cant really see the viewpoint
1. EAST BANK
(Instagram shot)
- Trail: Easy flat walk, early fork in the path stay to the right
- Alltrails here : shows 6mi out & back- But park in 2nd lot= cut in half
- Follow alltrails for viewpoint- small loop back down to river access point
- Easily confused with separate river access point 100meters before real one

- How entrance to viewpoint looks
- EXTREMELY slippery going down
- Someone always gets hurt
NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR INSTAGRAM
Parking lots of East bank
- One before and one after a narrow bridge
- West lot (still east bank don’t get confused) AFTER bridge
- Cuts walk in HALF, has a bathroom
- Semi sketch narrow gravel road- going to pass private rd signs but its fine
- Large lot- pay via app. No service at lot but will on the trail
- East lot before bridge
- Actually smaller vs west lot
- Where Alltrails starts hike (double length)
Different/1st river access point (100m before main)
- Much harder to climb down and then your realize youre at the wrong one
- Tip: this wrong viewpoint is even with west side platform- keep going

2. WEST BANK
- Parking lot and short walk to platform lookout that’s lame- labeled on gmaps
- Cant see the whole thing
- Add on after east bank if you want, otherwise a waste of time
