In simplest terms
- Storage= checked bag
- Porter= carry on item
- Day pack= personal item
1. Luggage (not taking with you on hike)
- Cusco hotels/hostels offer free luggage storage while on hike
- Alpaca also offers free storage for luggage not taking on hike
- Night before at briefing- receive luggage tags (dont bring actual luggage)
- Morning pick up give luggage to guide on bus
- Get Luggage back on return to Cusco
- If you’re doing an extra night make sure to tell them at drop off
2. Green Duffle: Porter carries 7kg
- Duffle bag carried by porter- only accessible at campsites
- 7KG weight limit- weighed first day
- 3.5kg=Alpaca rental gear
- 3.5 kg- Packing allowance- mostly your clothes
- Duffle is NOT waterproof (they say it is)
- Provide you plastic bags for contents inside bag
- Bring own Dry bag to put clothes in like this
- Provide you a poncho but its a little heavy
- If in dry season use this instead: Lightweight Poncho (much lighter)
Timeline
- Receive duffle at briefing- pack at your accommodation
- Bring to morning pickup bus
- Last camping night don’t forget anything you need for the ruins
- Duffle returned- post Machu Picchu in Aguas Calientes
- Staying extra night= recieve trash bag for stuff and alpaca takes duffle
- Take Duffle with you onto train, bus back to Cusco
3. Day pack- you carry during hike
- Bag 25-28L max allowed.
- Keep items you will need on you during hike
