-Everyone is trying to rip you off when buying something- always on guard
-Tourists= easy to spot and easy target even if with a guide
-Will be bombarded everywhere you go- Egypt is more aggressive vs Jordan
-Doesn’t take away from the sites- just something you have to deal with
Verbal
- Saying “no thank you”= starts a conversation and begins their negotiation
- DO NOT say anything- politely shake your head/wave your hand as a no and keep moving
Physical
- NEVER take anything handed to you- nothing is free
- Trick to blame you to pay even if you try to hand it back
- Keep your hands in your pockets keep moving
- Never point to a souvenir you are considering- will get bombarded
Price
Everything is in cash
- No Souvenir ever has a price- everything is a negotiation
- If you are buying something- ask if they have change BEFORE paying
- Sometimes they’ll keep your cash and tell you to get lost
- NEVER get in a cab before confirming price (remember to negotiate)
