FYI
Booked a tour= transport mostly taken care of but still stuff to be aware of
- Airports: Cairo International Airport (CAI), Luxor International airport LXR
- No WIFI in airports- Have you info ready and don’t be annoying
- Driving in Egypt
- Not safe to rent a car- lot of security checkpoints
- People drive crazy –always 6inches from the car Infront of them-
- Feels like you’ll get in an accident every 2 minutes
- Taxis- Confirm pricing for taxi before getting in- negotiate
- Uber in Cairo. Not in Luxor
Airport Security
Accept you have no control & rules will be different every time
- Four different checkpoints in one airport. Rules will not stay consistent
- Sometimes forced to check backpack other times carry on
- Last checkpoint at the gate=Takes food/drink bought after security
- Took a water bottle but not the canteen filled with water.
- Take some snacks, not all- pretty sure they just stealing some
- Have laptop charged they will ask you to turn it on
Boarding Passes
- Egypt Domestic & departing/leaving Egypt= NO MOBILE BOARDING PASS
- Need to check in at airport for paper boarding pass (even if carry on only)
- Domestic layover= must get all paper boarding passes at once.
- Flew Luxor–> USA, layover in Cairo.= Have to get Cairo-> USA pass in Luxor
- I messed this up and got an earful from security
