Pamplona- Running with Bulls

FYI

  • Part of San Fermín Festival every July 7th-14th
  • Opening ceremony day before July 6th at noon- Plaza Consistoria
  • Opening day (and weekend) usually overpacked
  • FREE to run, but at your own risk- people have died
  • Don’t have to run theres plenty to enjoy
  • Accommodations are pricey
  • Bucketlistevents: offers total package- accommodation, race balconies etc
  • Easiest route to Pamplona is from Barcelona: Transport and getting here

Timeline

  1. Runs starts every morning 8am- need to show up 6:30/7am
  2. Race is only a few minutes followed by bullring chase of the runners
  3. Some celebrating- but not too much!
  4. EVERYONE SIESTAS- town shuts down to nap till evening
  5. Bullfighting in arena starts around 6pm (recommend skipping)
  6. Then its a party ALL NIGHT LONG

Summary

  • Runs everyday for 9 days- show up 1.5hrs early
  • 6 old & 6 young bulls in the race down the streets into arena
  • Arena doors close once all bulls entered
  • Goal is dodge first bulls but beat the last bull into arena
  • To do that- need to start at halfway point
  • Rockets signal the start- then wait for the chaos
  • Make it into arena= bullring chase
  • Siesta, Bull fighting (skip) then PARTY
  • Run one day, watch from balcony the next
